Bringing the Beer to Woodbridge

It seems like a lifetime ago, but it hasn’t even been two years yet:  There were no breweries in Woodbridge. None.

That was 2015; the dark ages of Woodbridge beer. Those of us who lived here lamented having to drive 20-30 minutes to get to the nearest tap room. If you were lucky, there was a brewery near your office, or on your way home from work, but then there was traffic, and more often than not, it just complicated matters. Aside from a few “craft beer hip” spots in town, we were on our own.

Two years later, Woodbridge has five breweries! It sounds crazy to say it, but it’s true. We went from a barren wasteland to a miniature craft beer haven of sorts. Brew Republic, along with our neighbors Ornery, Growling Bear, Water’s End, and Heroic, opened our doors and began the quest to provide great liquid to the thirsty masses. To say that Woodbridge was ready for a malted-barley-based renaissance is an understatement; we were desperate for it.

The restaurants and grocery stores are getting into it too, and more and more beer-savvy retailers are popping up all the time. It would appear the dark ages are over.

And now we’re getting our own festival! Why not? When this much beer growth has occurred in such a short amount of time, it’s pretty evident that people’s palates are changing and there is a need to celebrate this cultural shift. The first ever Woodbridge Beer Fest is on Saturday, May 27th along the strip at Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center. There will be over 20 breweries on hand: Three Notch’d Brewing Company, Old Ox Brewery, Port City Brewing Company, Forge Brew Works, Adventure Brewing Company, 2Silos Brewing, Growling Bear Brewing Company, The Farm Brewery at Broad Run, Old Bust Head Brewing Company, BadWolf Brewing Company, Spencer Devon Brewing, Ornery Beer Company, Water’s End Brewery, Maltese Brewing Company, Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, Chaos Mountain Brewing, Fair Winds Brewing Company, Heroic Aleworks, DC Brau Brewing Company, Stone Brewing Richmond, and Heritage Brewing. We will also have wine provided by Potomac Point Winery, various food and non-food vendors, live music with IR, and stuff for the kids to do too. The fun begins at 11am (10am for VIP ticket holders) and will go until 5pm.

Tickets are still available and can be purchased on the official Woodbridge Beer Fest website.

And after the festing is over, join us in the tap room for the after party, which will feature live music by Andrew O’Day, plus our normal lineup of great beer and great food.

We hope you’ll come out on Saturday and join us as we celebrate local beer, and further cement Woodbridge as the beer town it is shaping up to be. Drink local!
